On January 1st , 2013, The Beat FM 97.9 Ibadan went live on air, officially launching operations. Auditions were carried out in February 2012 and some staff have already been hired. Cool FM’s Tyeng ‘Gang‘ Gyang is one of the likely suspects to kick off with the station.
The urban station will be rivaling popular Ibadan-based radio station Splash FM. There’s no word yet on whether Naija FM which is also setting up in Ibadan, will also be launched soon.
Beat FM started off in 2008 with The Beat 99.9FM in Lagos and is owned by Chris Ubosi’s Megalectrics.
