Capture

(Nigeria Movies) Nigeria’s Nollywood is the third largest movie industry in the world, after Hollywood and Bollywood, it is a worldwide success! But Nigeria’s most controversial show ‘Two Angry Men’ – with James & Harry! – sit down to gist some things Nollywood would rather not talk about:

“I know I’m supposed to be angry o, but when we don talk Nollywood the thing make me laugh!” says James with a big smile on his face.

“This laugh na anger o!” adds Harry, almost in tears. “Let us call a spade a spade and not a farming tool- the stories, the acting – lord have mercy!”

Two Angry Men: angry at Nigeria Movies – Nollywood!

Both James and Harry work in Nollywood and fear don catch them for even speaking their mind – “Are we safe?” Harry mutters.

“We don improve – we’ve come a long way,” says James. “Nollywood opened the door and showed the way, but fashion, music and all the other areas don improve pass and leave Nollywood behind.”

According to a UN report, Nigeria’s Nollywood produces more films that Hollywood and it is, by far, Africa’s largest movie industry. In the 1990′s and early 2000′s, many films were financed on tiny budgets and often filmed, edited and released in a week. Now the industry boasts a worldwide audience from Africa to the Caribbean and now making in-roads into America.

But, say our Two Angry Men, big problems remain with the stories, budgets and actors.

“Genevieve Nanji she dey try now,” says James. “She’s fine!”

“Yes she’s fine,” agrees Harry, “But for film – see her for this film, that film – na same person! Where’s the technique?”

Many of Nollywood’s films are distributed through VCD in Nigeria and through the internet to the international audience – but, Harry and James even spare a thought for the audience:

“The audience – you are idolising Mumu,” says Harry. “You have to be mumu to idolise Mumu!”

But James adds:

“Kudos to all you who make film you try but try better!”
