project fame

Lemar used Fame Academy in the UK as his stepping stone to national and international recognition. Several other global acts have used their successes at music reality shows to break into main stream music but we haven’t seen the same type of spirally success stories in Nigeria, or have we?

Of all the music reality shows, the one that seems to stand out the most in terms of winners and contestants who have been able to use the platform to launch successful music careers is MTN’s Project Fame. We will wait and see if X-Factor can create something phenomenal but looking at what it takes to emerge and succeed in Nigeria it takes a lot of hard work.

While several reality shows have produced good winners they seem to vanish soon after they are declared as winners. Except for a few unforgettable winners most are completely forgotten a year or two after the show is over. That is where Project Fame stands out; almost all its winners have become household names in the music industry. It seems that they are well cooked in the MTN Academy for the music business.

So even though Iyanya won Project Fame five years ago he is still going strong and is still very popular.Chidinma the 2010 winner has deservedly won an International KORA Award for her powerful songKedike.

This year season 6, MTN is again looking for youthful talent that can take and use the platform to jump start their musical careers and become hopefully superstars.

We hear that this year the Nigerian auditions will be flagged off with three, explosive ALL STAR concerts in Benin, Calabar and Lagos. Where award-winning winners like Iyanya, Myke and Chidinma will be performing with newly crowned season 4 and 5 winners Monica and Ayo and several other stars from Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone to make it a MTN project Fame All Stars gathering.

While the Project Fame auditions hold in 10 cities from Monrovia-Liberia on May 25, Freetown, Sierra Leone on May 30 and June 1 and Accra, Ghana on June 1, Benin and Abuja June 8, Port Harcourt and Ilorin on June 15, Calabar and Ibadan on June 22 to Lagos on June 28 and 29, Who will make MTN Project Fame a stepping stone platform this season remains to be seen, will X-factor do any better?

The auditions will determine…
