Selasi Receives African Awards USA 2013 Nomination

Congratulations to Selasi aka The African Kid for his African Awards USA Nomination in the category of Best Upcoming Artist 2013.


The 2nd Annual African Awards USA will be held at Georgia Public Broadcasting located at 260 14th Street NW, Atlanta, GA on Saturday, August 31st, 7pm-11pm. One month after meeting with the His Excellency Mr. Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Ambassador of Ghana to the United States Of America, Selasi aka The African Kid, has the pleasure of representing Ghana again at The 2nd Annual African Awards USA where he is nominated in the category of Best Upcoming Artist 2013.


The event will be held Saturday, August 31st, 7pm-11pm at Georgia Public Broadcasting located at 260 14th Street NW in Atlanta, GA. Of his nomination, Selasi states, “Being nominated for Best Upcoming Artist is an acknowledgement that my music, my art is appreciated. The recognition is an affirmation that there is a place in the U.S. and Globally for African artist to shine. I remember being in Africa watching some of the same acts I’ve worked with on TV, and a few years later, I’m in America working with them in the studio. When I think of my journey and all the ‘ups & downs’ of it, I’m humbled by this honor and will continue to do my part to raise the bar sonically for African not just as a entertainer or producer, but as an African Man.” The Ghanaian-born Atlanta based artist/producer/songwriter is a cast member on Bravo Television’s The Kandi Factory and has appeared in several episodes of  The Real Housewives of Atlanta, two popular shows which air in America on the Bravo TV Network and around the world.


Selasi has also made great strides in the American music industry producing and engineering songs for notables like Idris Elba, Kandi Burruss, Trey Songz, Bobby Valentino, Nas, Akon and more. He recently released his own music, [Shades Of Grey], which melds African, Caribbean and American music into a style that MTV World has described as “a fluent blend of hip-life, pop, and reggae” citing Selasi as “the first artist to truly and seamlessly merge all three styles.” His video for “[Call The Police]” are in rotation on MTV World, MTVIggy, Channel O and most recent video “**[Ups & Downs (Tie Masem)]” both feature the Ghanaian flag prominently. The African Awards is an annual event sponsored by Hope of Africa, Inc. a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization head quartered in Atlanta, GA, which focuses on improving The African Community development through education and empowerment. The purpose of the African Awards Show is to showcase and recognize the enormous talents of people of the African descent who have made positive and selfless contributions to the betterment of Africans in the homeland as well as in the Diaspora.
